Employee spotlight: How Niza has cultivated a career in creating harmony

When Nooraniza Othman (known as Niza) joined Resmed Malaysia in July 2021, she stepped into a new role during one of the most uncertain times in recent history: the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting as an associate project manager, she had to quickly navigate remote onboarding, shifting priorities and the complexities of global supply chain operations. What began as a leap into the unknown quickly transformed into a journey of growth for Niza.

What success as a project manager means for Niza

Many people think of a project manager as someone who manages timelines and deliverables. While that’s correct, it’s also about people, says Niza. Her role requires her to navigate a complex web of cross-functional teams, and she’s found that strong communication and emotional steadiness are key.

“In order for me to succeed in my role and do my tasks well, I need to be a good listener and a strong communicator,” she explains. “I have to talk to a lot of functions, and honestly, I need to be someone who can keep calm when things get messy.”

Whether she’s aligning stakeholders or resolving bottlenecks, Niza’s natural curiosity and love for conversation have helped her deepen her understanding of processes, compliance and regulatory requirements — making her not just a connector, but a harmonizer who brings clarity and cohesion to every project.

Niza’s role as a harmonizer

When Niza was promoted to project manager in April 2024, her responsibilities grew, and so did the leadership demands of her role. Managing cross-functional teams, navigating bottlenecks and aligning stakeholders requires a lot of technical skill and emotional intelligence.

Recognizing this, Niza’s manager made her development in emotional intelligence a priority. He gifted her a book on the topic and offered regular feedback during one-on-one meetings, helping her build the resilience and calm needed to lead effectively.

“As a project manager, I need to harmonize the team when there’s an issue or bottleneck. I need to stay calm in any situation,” Niza explains. “I’ve learned how to stay in control, even in crisis mode, and that’s helped me show up better for my team.”

Building Senai: A testament to collaboration

One of Niza’s proudest moments in her career came when she helped establish a new production site in Senai, a bustling Malaysian tech hub. From equipment purchasing to facility validation, the Senai project was completed in under a year — a feat made possible by intense collaboration and shared purpose.

“It’s really rewarding to know that I played a part in making that happen. We worked to a tight timeline, so it was very impressive to see that collaboration across teams to meet production schedules,” she says.

How Niza juggles her priorities

Niza’s role involves juggling multiple priorities, from engineering requirements to market needs and regulatory demands. With clear communication and stakeholder alignment, she’s able to keep projects moving forward.

“Every day is a bit of a juggling act because there are always multiple priorities coming from different directions and multiple priorities that we need to align with a cross-functional team,” says Niza.

Niza continues, “The challenge is to keep everyone on the same page while moving forward. It takes a lot of coordination and communication, but that’s part of what makes my job interesting.”

How Resmed values flexibility

As a single mother, flexibility isn’t a luxury; it’s essential for Niza. Resmed’s culture of trust and accountability allows Niza to manage her time while being present for her two boys.

“In Malaysia, flexibility like this is rare. Resmed gives it without compromising accountability. I’m truly grateful,” she says.

This balance between professional ambition and personal responsibility is what keeps Niza thriving.

Advice for future Resmedians

Niza’s advice to those considering a career at Resmed is grounded in accountability and ambition:

“Be accountable and be ambitious. Resmed is full of opportunities, and the leadership is open to helping you grow.”
