Today we are the global leader in digital health.
ResMed was founded in Australia in 1989 with a singular mission of changing lives for millions with sleep and respiratory disorders.
Today we are the global leader in sleep technology and our cloud-connected devices transform care and lives for people with sleep apnea, COPD, and other chronic diseases.
While the company was founded in 1989, our technology story dates back to 1981 when Professor Colin Sullivan and colleagues at the University of Sydney described and developed nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), the first successful non-invasive treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
Seeking to commercialise his patented technology, Professor Sullivan approached The Baxter Centre for Medical Research where Dr.Farrell was involved in further developing the CPAP prototype and undertaking clinical trials. When the Baxter Centre decided not to enter the sleep apnea market, Dr Farrell bought the technology from his former employers and established his own company to bring CPAP to the world – ResMed, short for Respiratory Medicine.
Delivering on his vision and promise, ResMed has become the world leader in sleep health. CPAP masks, machines and life support ventilators changing lives for millions. As of June 2022, nearly 18 million connected ResMed devices help people sleep, breathe, and live healthier lives outside the hospital around the world.
Peter Farrell is today the Chairman of ResMed’s Board of Directors . His son Michael “Mick” Farrell has worked at ResMed for over 20 years and has been CEO since 2013.
Building on our experience in sleep and respiratory health, we are working to develop data-driven health technologies and strategies to keep people out-of-hospital. By empowering people to live higher-quality lives without the need for hospital care, our connected and holistic health solutions have the potential to revolutionize global health care.
Already, we are making a difference in more than 140 countries where our solutions are enabling better care, improving quality of life, reducing the impact of chronic disease and lowering the costs of care for consumers and healthcare systems alike.
Through innovative products and tech-driven integrated care solutions we work with the singular purpose of empowering people to live healthier and higher quality lives in the comfort of their home or care setting of their choice.
Wherever we operate in the world, we work to provide a culture of support, inclusion and opportunity and an environment that will bring out the best in every employee.
Our mission is changing lives for millions around the world. We also bring that ambition closer to home within the communities in which we work and live. We are proud to give back where we can.
