From intern to industry leader: product manager Sudeep Singh reflects on his decade-long career at Resmed

Sudeep Singh’s Resmed career began with an internship and a fascination with robots. As a mechatronics engineering student at UNSW, a university based in Sydney, Australia, Sudeep landed an internship at Resmed through a UNSW scholarship program. His first assignment was in the moulding factory, and he was immediately captivated: “If I ever got bored, I would go to check out the robots in action” he recalls.

According to Sudeep, it was a perfect first internship for him to figure out what he wanted to do and where he wanted to take his career. Working amongst the factory sparked his curiosity and just before finishing his degree, Sudeep accepted a full-time role at Resmed. Ten years later, he’s still here, now a global product manager helping lead digital transformation across manufacturing operations.

A career that’s come full circle

Sudeep’s time at Resmed has taken him in many different directions. He’s worked across Sydney and Singapore, in teams focused on moulding, ventilation, oxygen concentrators and digital transformation. “I wasn’t technically part of a graduate rotation program,” he says, “but I’d been around manufacturing long enough that if certain projects popped up, I was moved across to support.”

Eventually, he returned to the factory where he started as an intern, this time not just observing, but leading. “It felt like I was coming full circle,” he says. “I started in the moulding factory, and now I’m helping shape how it evolves.”

This kind of movement isn’t just possible at Resmed, it’s encouraged. Resmed’s graduate program is designed to give people a panoramic view of the business. You’re not boxed into one role; you’re invited to explore, to ask questions and find your fit.

On Resmed’s culture

Resmed’s great campus experience is a big reason why Sudeep says he’s stayed at Resmed so long. “I play touch footy with the team at lunch time, others play basketball or soccer. We often get lunch together at our onsite cafeteria or have spontaneous chats in breakout rooms,” says Sudeep.

Sudeep also likes the fact Resmed has grown with him. “We’re a large global company. We’ve grown massively in the last five to 10 years. But the company is still small enough that we can make an impact and our contributions matter,” says Sudeep.

A rare opportunity for connection

Resmed’s Sydney manufacturing facility isn’t tucked away in some industrial zone, it’s right next to the office. That proximity creates a sense of connection for Sudeep and his team to their work. Engineers, operators, and managers aren’t separated by layers of bureaucracy — they’re part of the same ecosystem.

“Some people drive past Resmed and think the two buildings are just offices,” Sudeep says. “They don’t know there’s a full factory there, and that it’s an important factory in a global network.”

Ask a lot of questions

If you’re looking for a place where answers are handed to you, or where you can get by without growth, Sudeep believes you’ll struggle at Resmed. “If you don’t want to grow, you won’t,” Sudeep says. “If you’re not trying to actively push yourself outside your boundaries, you’re not going to see any career growth.”

Sudeep’s advice to the next generation is to be inquisitive and open to challenges. “Don’t be afraid to be the person in the room that doesn’t know anything or is the least experienced. Ask as many questions as you can — it’ll help you, and it might just help someone else too,” says Sudeep.
