Why material flow is really all about people
At its core, material flow is about connection; raw materials arrive, move through countless touchpoints, and emerge as finished products. It’s a complex system of coordination and precision.
Lek says that traditional views of material flow often overlook the hidden processes and the people that she calls the “invisible hands” that ensure efficiency.
As Resmed expands globally (with new manufacturing sites in Calabasas, California; Johor, Malaysia; and beyond), the challenge becomes designing systems that are not only efficient today but scalable for the future. This requires strategic thinking, adaptability, and above all, teamwork.
Always learning, always improving
Much like how an ideal logistics system functions, Lek has approached her career as a process of continuous improvement, by taking on new challenges, learning across functions and embracing change.
“I never stopped learning,” she says. “Every role was a new system to understand, a new flow to master.”
A culture without bottlenecks
In intralogistics — which refers to the management and optimization of the flow of goods and materials within internal facilities such as warehouses and distribution centers — bottlenecks slow down progress. In the workplace, cumbersome hierarchy can do the same. But at Resmed, the flow of ideas and communication is refreshingly open.
“VPs, directors or senior managers are always approachable. It’s not about rank; it’s about solving problems together.”
This openness fosters innovation and trust, just like a well-designed system where every part works in harmony.
Leadership that goes with the flow
Lek’s leadership style is rooted in trust and autonomy. She empowers her team to take ownership — just as a logistics system relies on each point in the network to perform its role seamlessly.
“I guide them when needed, but I trust them to manage their work,” she says.
Leadership, to her, isn’t about control; it’s about designing the flow — setting direction, clearing roadblocks, and letting her team move with purpose.
Steering the team to success
Lek couldn’t be prouder of her small but mighty team, who always seem to be going the extra mile to do their best work. “They’re pushing 120%,” she says. “They bring ideas to life, take ownership and grow through challenges.”
Just as every conveyor, robot, and sensor is vital to production, every team member plays an essential part in Resmed’s success. Together, they keep things — and each other — moving forward.
