When Zoey Khan joined Resmed’s graduate rotation program, it felt like a natural next step in her career. As an engineer ready to challenge herself, the opportunity to contribute within a global medtech organisation was both exciting and slightly overwhelming.
“I remember my first day being introduced to the team,” Zoey says. “It was a big moment — I was excited, but also very aware of the scale of the company and how much there was to learn.”
What stood out immediately, though, was the warmth of the team. She was met with genuine encouragement and support, which quickly reassured her that she had joined a place where she could grow.
Diving in from day one
Since the beginning of her placement, Zoey went straight into meaningful projects which she embraced.
“I was thrown into the deep end, and I really appreciated it. My leaders placed me where the action was, and I was very hungry to learn,” Zoey says.
She was trusted from the start, encouraged to build relationships, and given opportunities to contribute in ways that mattered.
“My managers took me seriously. They gave me a chance to learn and to prove myself. That’s one of the best things I think a leader can do for you — to just put you out there,” Zoey says.
Building confidence through culture
Early on, Zoey was mindful about speaking up and conscious of making mistakes. But Resmed’s supportive culture encouraged curiosity over perfection, helping her find her voice.
“You’re encouraged to ask lots of questions, especially when you’re unsure. That’s how you grow. It’s embedded in our culture,” Zoey says.
This environment helped her grow more confident and comfortable taking on bigger responsibilities.
Discovering meaning in her work
As a student, Zoey had heard about Resmed and applied more than once to the graduate rotation program.
After her first application was unsuccessful, Zoey interned at a startup where she encountered sleep apnea firsthand. She helped test and fit CPAP masks, meeting people whose lives were affected by exhaustion and chronic health complications.
“That experience showed me how much sleep apnea affected quality of life. It made me appreciate the industry so much,” Zoey says.
Her connection to the work deepened when her own father was later diagnosed with sleep apnea.
“He’s been snoring his whole life and finally got tested. As we suspected, the doctor confirmed it,” she says.
This made the impact of her work feel even more real, more personal.
Leading projects that make a difference
Zoey is now an associate manager leading a team of manufacturing project leads. She drives new product introductions and new manufacturing process development in the masks space — work she cares deeply about.
“I’m passionate about my role because it’s something you can genuinely care about. It impacts people’s lives.”
Advice for new graduates
Zoey’s key advice is to get hands-on experience wherever you can, because that’s how real growth happens.
“My confidence has grown enormously over the past five years — from taking on small challenges to now leading meetings and managing stakeholders across the business.”
Resmed’s rotation program, with its frequent team moves, taught her adaptability and introduced her to tight-knit groups across the company.
“I got attached to my teams, and it felt like I got homesick every time I rotated because they were so close-knit.”
Her final piece of wisdom: choose work that gives you purpose.
“We spend a lot of time at work each week, so it matters that the work means something to you. For me, knowing that what we build helps people breathe, sleep and live better makes it easy to stay motivated.”
