Ari Berntsen

Technical Writer Intern, SaaS

Tell us about your experience as an intern at ResMed.

My time as an intern at ResMed assigned at MatrixCare, has been nothing short of amazing. This is my second summer here, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to return. I’m part of an incredible team developing educational resources for home health and hospice software. Having had family members in hospice, this work is deeply meaningful to me. It’s gratifying to know I’m contributing to improving healthcare during such critical times.

Here, I have been encouraged to broaden my skills beyond technical writing. Last summer, I dived into instructional design projects and explored Learning Management Systems. This year, I’m focusing on a file management system and creating efficient document workflows. It’s been a blast learning new software skills and applying what I know.

What makes ResMed special to you? Why did you join the internship program?

ResMed’s commitment to diversity and inclusion really stood out to me. With a background in healthcare as a paramedic and personal experiences with family members in hospice, ResMed offered the perfect blend of purpose and professional growth. I get to use my skills to make a real impact.

Working on client-driven projects allows me to engage with stakeholders and subject matter experts, which has been both fun and enlightening. The days fly by because the work is so engaging. When I heard about the internship opening again, I couldn’t wait to apply.

What advice would you give to fellow students seeking an internship at ResMed?

Research the different internship options available, find what excites you, and go for it. These summer internships have significantly shaped my career as a technical writer and my personal growth. ResMed offers excellent opportunities to network and develop professionally. Be prepared to learn and don’t box in your skills. Think creatively about how you can apply your abilities to various scenarios. This mindset will make you stand out in interviews and help you grow your skills.

The best thing about being a student at ResMed is…

I absolutely love this job. While the saying goes, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life,” I slightly disagree. What I do is indeed work, and it can be challenging, but it’s meaningful and directly impacts customers and patient care. Solving complex problems has honed my skills and made the work fun. Collaborating with a highly skilled, welcoming team has been fantastic. They valued my contributions from day one, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of ResMed’s internship program.
