Calculate Your Carbon Footprint

Difficulty

Easy

Objective
Global warming is caused by the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. There are many different types of greenhouse gases, however for simplicity we normally group them together in a unit called Carbon Equivalent Emissions (kg CO2 eq.) which is often referred to as ‘Carbon Emissions’. In this activity we will calculate the environmental impact of our day to day life and calculate the carbon emissions we have produced.

Method

1

Calculate your ecological footprint using the World Wildlife Fund’s calculator

2

Identify the highest impact areas of your life.

3

Create a plan of how you can reduce your overall impact. Perhaps this means riding your bike instead of going in the car, walking instead of catching the bus. Always turning the lights off when you leave the room and making sure you’ve got LED light bulbs installed.

Every little thing makes a difference!
