Creating a chocolate mould

Difficulty

Medium

Objective

To understand how 3D parts are moulded.

Outline

Equipment

  • Silicone plastique (usually comes in 2 parts, often blue and white)

Method

1

Measure equal amounts of both parts of the silicone plastique out. Knead the 2 parts together until you have a solid colour (no streaks)

2

Place a very thin layer of the plastique onto the surface of the object you’re going to mould and take time to ensure the layer is pushed onto the entire surface of the object to ensure you get all the detail

3

Next you place a thicker layer of the plastique over your thin layer. One way to do this to use a small measuring cup and line the base of it with approximately 5mm piece of plastique. Then place the mould object into the measuring cup and push down so that the thin layer of plastique combines with the plastique in the measuring cup. Leave for 1 hour to let the plastique set.

4

Pull the mould item away from the plastique and you now have a mould ready to use

5

Pour melted chocolate into the mould and tap it a few times to ensure the chocolate is spread through the mould and to get rid of any air bubbles. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes

6

Gently flex the mould to release the chocolate and enjoy!
