Role
Associate Manager of Product Sustainability

Tell us a bit about yourself – What is your current role? What other roles/areas have you worked in?

Hey, I’m Amanda and I’m leading our newly formed Product Sustainability team. I’m super passionate about environmental sustainability and am excited to help ResMed become a leader for sustainable design in healthcare. Previously, I was a Design Engineer in our Masks department and I studied Biomedical Engineering at uni.

As a child what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a kid I loved playing sport and being outdoors. What I wanted to do seemed to change every week from being a gymnast, swimmer, doctor… the list goes on. There was even a very brief period where I wanted to be the Prime Minister.

Were you always destined for a STEM career?

Hmm, tricky question. At school I enjoyed all my subjects, but it wasn’t until high school that I decided maths and science were the way to go because it required much less reading and writing essays! I also loved the practical side of these subjects, especially being able do fun experiments in class.

What is your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of my job is the power that we have to make a positive impact. By making a really simple design change, making our parts lighter for example, we can significantly reduce the impact we are having on the planet.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work I still love to play sport, that hasn’t changed since I was a kid! I also study Spanish and enjoy cooking, reading and watching AFL.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Love a bit of sport – I’ll give anything with a bat or ball a go. Getting off the grid; going four-wheel driving and finding some beautiful and remote camp sites just to ourselves. And catching up with family and friends for a meal or drink and some laughs.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

It really varies! Some weeks I get up early every day to exercise or go to the beach. Other weeks if the weather isn’t as nice I’ll be lazy and sleep in every morning.

Would you rather have a completely automated home or a self-driving car?

Definitely a completely automated home! Chores like cleaning and doing the washing are the worst – I’d love a robot to do them for me. Driving on the other hand can be really fun (although not in Sydney traffic!!)

Would you rather go 500 years into the future or 500 years into the past?

I think I’d rather go to the past. It seems so crazy to me that we were able to create these amazing cities and buildings without the technologies we have today. I’d love to see it! Although I think I’d be ready to come back pretty quickly after realising there were no hot showers!
